The Independent Women’s Organization endorsed City Councilwoman LaToya Cantrell for the October 14 mayoral election on Saturday, July 29. IWO is a Democratic women’s organization.
“The women called themselves independent to mean speaking in their own voice as separate from men and machine politics, not the Democratic Party,” according to IWO’s description on its website.
Cantrell has declared repeatedly that she is not and never has been a candidate of a political machine, but one for the people.
“Thank you for your endorsement, IWO New Orleans!” Cantrell said in a statement. “I’m grateful this organization of strong Democratic women endorses me to serve as the next Mayor of New Orleans.”
IWO asked the candidates to answer some questions in advance of the July 29 Candidates forum. You can read their responses here: bit.ly/iwoforum17
